Q- How long has X-kote been around?
A- X-kote was developed over many years and tested extensively in the automotive and marine industry before it was released to X-kote dealers in 2004.
Q - Who is X-kote available to?
A - X-kote is a professional product only available to licensed X-kote centers. If you are interested in having your personal vehicle, boat or aircraft X-kote'd you can contact us by calling: 604-534-3995, or by using our contact form.
Q - How is X-kote applied?
A - X-kote is applied by hand with an application cloth. The application lines will self level completely flat in 5 to 10 seconds.
Q - How long will X-kote last?
A - X-koting your vehicle, boat or aircraft is similar to repainting it. X-kote can never wash or wear off like other waxes and products. It will scratch and wears just like the existing paint. The long term condition of your X-kote
finish, just like your existing paint, will vary with environmental conditions, care of the finish, etc.
Q - How deep of scratch can X-kote repair?
A - X-kote
will easily repair light scratches and swirls, and can even repair a very deep
scratch, all the way through the clear coat.
If the damage has gone all the way through to the primer coat, it will
first be minimized with X-kote, then we will do a very fine touch up to the
remaining damage.
Q - Does the surface need to be sanded or scuffed before application?
A - No. Typical paints and clear coats adhere mechanically, meaning you have to scuff or sand the surface for it to adhere. X-kote however, utilizes a unique chemical adhesion process, which is a far stronger and consistent form of adhesion, eliminating the need to scuff the surface.
Q - Can X-kote delaminate or peel off?
A - No. X-kote has been tested and used over many years and on tens of thousands of applications.
Q - Is X-kote body shop compatible?

is 100% body shop compatible, as X-kote utilizes the same basic chemistry your vehicle, boat or airplane is painted with.
Q - What kind of paints will X-kote work on?
A -X-kote can be applied to base coat/clear coat, enamel, lacquer, gel coat and urethane paints.
Q - Does X-kote utilize an activator?
A - Yes, just like a spray-on clear coat, an activator is added to X-kote before application.
Q - Does a scratch need to be wet sanded or buffed before application?
A - Most lighter scratches and swirls will be permanently filled and repaired without sanding or buffing. On deeper scratches that can be caught with a fingernail, some wet sanding and buffing to round off the edges of the scratch will often achieve a flawless, permanent repair.
Q - How long does X-kote take to dry?
A - Depending on climate, X-kote is dry to the touch in 5 to 15 minutes, and can be waxed in as little as one or two hours.
Q - Can I wax over X-kote?
A - Yes, a new X-kote finish is just like a new paint job. In order to maintain that finish we recommend you use a good silicone free wax. This will protect the integrity of your X-kote finish over time.
Q - Can X-kote be applied without a spray booth?
A - Yes. Most shop environments with a normal amount of dust are ok.
Q - How long before I can wash an X-kote finish?
A - An X-kote finish can get wet after just a couple hours in warmer temperatures, however we recommend the surface not be washed for at least a week unless baked after application. Rinsing with water during that week is OK.
